Prelude to Residency

A structured, free program that prepares osteopathic OB/GYN applicants to stand out in a competitive Match and arrive at residency ready to contribute.

What is P2R?

Prelude to Residency (P2R) is a structured, evidence-based program built only for osteopathic OB/GYN applicants. It gives you the knowledge, tools, and preparation the Match process expects. No one teaches this directly.

P2R rests on intentional, strategic preparation. It draws on spaced retrieval and professional identity formation, two neuroscience-backed methods that help you internalize what you learn rather than skim past it.

It is free. It is self-paced. And it is built for you.

P2R is for

OB/GYN applicants

Osteopathic medical students who want a stronger position in the OB/GYN Match and a head start over their peers on day one.

Mentors and advisors

Faculty and advisors who guide students through the OB/GYN application and want one reliable resource to recommend.

Residency programs

Programs that want PGY-1s who arrive ready to contribute, not only ready to start.

What is inside P2R

1

Section 1

Resources and Tools for OB/GYN Residency Applicants

Section 1

The OB/GYN application has more moving parts than most students expect. This section organizes all of it, vetted and sequenced for use.

You will learn how to

Build a program list using FREIDA, the APGO Residency Directory, and Residency Explorer, with DO-specific competitiveness data

Read NRMP match data and understand what program directors look for

Find away rotation opportunities and work through VSLO, Clinician Nexus, and program GME pages

Complete ResidencyCAS with confidence and submit a strong SLOE

Apply strategically using program signals and the Alignment Check Index

Understand the Match process and SOAP before you need to

Section 2

Pre-Work from the CREOG/RRR Curriculum

P2R Section 2

Drawn from the CREOG Readiness for Residency curriculum, this section builds the internal skills that shape how you perform under pressure. You get it before the pre-residency phase, when it counts most.

You will learn how to

Build resilience and a sustainable gratitude practice before residency begins, well ahead of burnout

Manage time by deciding better rather than doing more

Receive and use feedback without shutting down, a core skill in a training environment built on evaluation

Apply deliberate practice and growth mindset frameworks to speed your clinical development

Develop into a Master Adaptive Learner, the model behind the strongest clinicians in any specialty

Section 3

Prep for Virtual Interviews for OB/GYN Residencies

P2R Section 3

The interview is your one chance to be a person, not a file. This section prepares you for every part of the virtual interview, from your first answer to your final question, and from your setup to how you appear on screen.

You will learn how to

Answer "Tell me about yourself" the way a program director wants to hear it

Prepare for the 25 most common OB/GYN residency interview questions, with sample answers and what interviewers listen for

Ask questions that signal real thought about fit, culture, and your own priorities

Avoid the behaviors that cost applicants in virtual interviews, the subtle ones no one mentions until after

Set up your camera, lighting, background, and appearance so your technical setup never works against you

Developed by Experts

P2R was developed by osteopathic OB/GYN faculty, residents, and a student representative through the ACOOG Ad Hoc Committee for Undergraduate Medical Education.
